DAS ADY is the rap alter ego of television and theatre actor Adam Langer, who somewhat unusually performs as the frontman of a six-piece band. The combination of rap and live instrumentation is something rarely seen in the Czech Republic (perhaps with the exception of Prago Union), and audiences consistently respond enthusiastically to a live band made up of top-tier musicians.
That Ady has a captivating stage presence and knows how to command a crowd is hardly surprising for an actor. His voice, trained through years of dubbing work, allows him to deliver bars with the cadence of a machine gun while remaining perfectly clear and understandable.
Ady’s lyrical delivery is often almost mechanically precise. It’s clear that, unlike many Czech MCs, his early inspiration came from German rap. With the video for “Vágus v Prágu,” DAS ADY won the Klipárna competition in the category “Concept and Screenplay.” His most successful video, “Kaiser,” has also received awards in competitions such as The Mag Wrap and the No Stress Music Video Awards.
Most recently, DAS ADY also won the Radiotalent competition in the Electro category, which speaks to the wide artistic range of this performer. In his music, DAS ADY blends rap with several different genres and switches languages even more often than musical styles. His lyrics feature verses in Czech, English, German and even Hungarian.
He does not shy away from demanding or socially sensitive topics, yet he skillfully uses exaggeration and humor in his lyrics without slipping into parody.
